The Punk Anton - Silver Plate Asprey Argyle Gravy Jug

The Punk Anton - Silver Plate Asprey Argyle Gravy Jug

The Punk Anton is an Edwardian silver plated Argyle sometime known as an Argyll

This was used to keep gravy warm. The double walled design to allow the outside to be filled with hot water.

His separate interior holds the gravy, his curved spout is used for pouring from the bottom, which allowed the gravy to be drawn off from underneath the layer of fat that settled on the top.

His side handle is wrapped in wicker.

Simple, elegant design with a gadroon border on both the top and bottom rim.

Marked Asprey London at base

Has some minimal wear to his silver electro plating surface. Inside is of good usable condition with minimal wear and scratches.

Fine piece of unusual antique dining wear

John Campbell (1723-1806), the fifth Duke of Argyll, who commissioned the first piece to maintain the warmth of the gravy in its vessel.

Argyles were produced up until the Edwardian period, but since many of the early examples were converted into coffee or teapots, they have become quite rare.
